Throughout 2026, MidWest America proudly celebrates 90 years of serving our communities. Since our
start in 1936 as the General Electric Employees Federal Credit Union, we’ve grown from humble
beginnings—including volunteers once carrying cash in shoeboxes—to a nearly $1‑billion credit union
trusted by thousands. Our roots remain central to who we are. After receiving our federal charter on May
29, 1936, we opened our first permanent branch at 1021 Swinney Avenue across from General Electric. As
membership grew, so did our reach. Today, we serve more than 51,000 members through 15 full‑service
branches across Indiana and beyond. While much has changed, our commitment to community remains the
same, guided by our mission: “To provide every member, regardless of their economic situation, with
personalized financial services to equip them for success.”
