Adopt a Soldier
From July 6th thru July 31st, MidWest America collected items for soldiers. Last year, our members helped us send more than 40 boxes overseas and this year we had an amazing response and the Credit Union was able to send over 230 boxes to our troops!
The soldiers have received the boxes
and below are a few letters of gratitude to everyone for their generosity.

...Also attached is a picture of one of the guys with a few toiletries that he appreciated receiving. Everyone here is so thankful for everything you all have sent our way. We've also passed on some of the goodies to other service members from other FOBs who come to our FOB to get supplies. One of the FOBs haven't received mail in a few months, so I'm thankful that we're kind of in the hub so we receive things a little more easily. Your packages have made it possible for other troops to enjoy things that they typically wouldn't have. I gave a lot of the Noodles to the guys who are immersed with the Afghanistan Police. They live among the Afghanistan Police so they've been eating what they eat, such as goat that is brought to them alive then is butchered. They were very happy to feast upon the noodles...

We've received a TON of packages since the mail had been just
sitting at another location piling up until the mail convoy could go out and finally get it over here to us. The guys were joking that MidWest America must really love me! LOL It was
a bit of work to get all the packages some place where we
can go through and sort them… it was really a team effort doing all the loading, unloading from the two vehicles, then putting everything into the Sports Room then taking
everything out and going through as much as we could. We spent hours working on it, but it was a labor of love.
The troops were so happy to receive items and I took pictures so you can see the smiling happy faces that you guys made happen! The guys said that this was so amazing and that it was great to feel so supported! It was really like a miracle for us! You guys have no idea how much of a huge impact you've made on our service members and the morale on this FOB! Some of the items will be used as prizes to give troops an incentive to be more involved and to participate in events. Other items like the books and magazines and candy are already in our library for everyone to enjoy.
I'd say there were over twenty troops who've helped out because this was quite an huge, but wonderful project! We're also sharing the goodies with other troops at other FOBs also, so know that you are helping a lot of troops even beyond FOB Lightning! Thank you, thank you so very much for everything!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
Lots of Love

Letter #2
I just want to send the rest of the pictures I took. You have no idea how much this all means to us. One of the guys mentioned how nice it was for you all to send it to us since he said it sometimes feel like the rest of the world has forgotten us since we're in the middle of nowhere Afghanistan…. It was just so great to see so many happy faces, you'd think it was Christmas!
That is so amazing that there is still more packages to come too! We want to let you know that we are so very thankful for everything you send our way. We are so excited to receive the packages. You can see the troops looking like happy little kids when they get items that they've been wanting and needing. One guy said he just ran out of toothpaste and this couldn't have come at a better time! Another one was saying how his socks all have holes on it so he was doing a little dance when we got some new socks from the packages you sent our way. Know that every single item will be used and is so very much appreciated!
From all of us here at FOB Lightning to all of you, thank you so, so, so very much from the bottom of our hearts!
Lots of Love
