A credit union that puts care before cash? It’s a MidWest thing.

Our History

In 1936, a group of General Electric (GE) employees based in Fort Wayne, Indiana, petitioned for a federal credit union charter which was granted on May 29, 1936. This was our beginning as General Electric Employees & Affiliates Federal Credit Union. Initially, our office was situated within the plant itself.  Over time, our office was relocated to various temporary sites until establishing a permanent home in 1969 on Swinney Avenue, opposite of the GE plant. In early 1987, we rebranded as MidWest America Federal Credit Union to better represent our broadened field of membership and market reach. That same year, our two-story corporate headquarters opened on North Clinton at Medical Park Drive.

Today, MidWest America currently operates 15 full-service offices in Northeastern Indiana, employing over 180 individuals and serving more than 51,000 members with assets nearing $850 million. Our mission is rooted in the credit union principle of People Helping People. We prioritize community impact with our business model, striving to create financial opportunities for members of diverse economic backgrounds.
