It's A Money Thing - Financial Education for all ages

Who said financial education has to be all serious and boring?

July 7, 2022

When our Growing Up MidWest program began, we looked for content for our oldest youths in the program and came across It’s A Money Thing. In this series of short videos, viewers join main character Jen on her journey to understand everything there is to know about money. The financial concepts presented are sophisticated, while the simple animated approach perfectly appeals to young adults and was a perfect fit for our program.

This engaging program has a crazy cast of characters that includes talking cards (credit & debit), sharks, squirrels, and turtles as well as mad scientists, game show hosts, fortune tellers, surfer dudes and lunch ladies just to name a few. These videos also feature very current topics including Understanding Inflation and Foiling Identity Theft.

A fun side effect is that we’ve found these videos appeal to all ages. They are guaranteed to put a smile on your face while teaching you a financial concept. There are topics you may have a vague understanding of that can be made clearer just by watching a few of these shorts. In our Roots Newsletters, we’ve featured videos and content that anyone could learn from such as Compound Interest, Budgeting Basics, Comparing Cards, and Know Your Checking Account just to name a few. Visit our It’s a Money Thing page for a complete listing of all the videos we’ve released.

You will also find It’s a Money Thing JR videos which are aimed at younger kids ages 5-12 and are specifically designed to cover simplified financial concepts and to work through a problem.

So next time you are in need of a good laugh or are looking for a better explanation of something financial, take a look at our It’s a Money Thing page. You won’t regret it.
